Sputnik Supplements Now Available in Mysore Mysuru News – Times of India

At a time when the demand for paid Covid-19 vaccines was low and over 75% of the target population in Mysore district has received at least one dose, some private hospitals in the city are now offering the Sputnik vaccine.
So far, only about two dozen Mysoreans have taken the vaccine made in Russia. Mysore is the second city after Bangalore to have a foreign vaccine available. However, unlike Covishield and Covaxin, which are given free of cost at government centres, those seeking a two-dose vaccine will have to pay Rs 1,145 per dose.
Sputnik’s arrival was delayed by two months and private hospitals say they received a lot of inquiries for the vaccine because many believe it is more effective than Covishield or Covaxin, the two vaccines.
NG Bharathisha Reddy, vice-president, Apollo Hospitals, which offers Sputnik, said that since most people have been vaccinated, the hospital has procured only 600 doses of Sputnik. “We are ready to buy more if there is demand. We are ready to introduce the vaccine in areas outside the city as well,” he said.
Immunization Nodal Officer Dr MS Jayant said that out of the total target 24.7 lakh population in the district, about 75.6% have been covered under at least one dose. About 7.9 lakh people have been fully vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the special Wednesday campaign will resume from September 22. Dr Jayant said that around 1.2 lakh doses are available in the district and the target is to provide employment to one lakh people.
