Sri Lanka to report nearly 50,000 dengue cases in 2022 – Times of India

Colombo: Sri Lanka Local media reported that about 50,000 cases of dengue were reported in the first eight months of 2022.
according to National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU), 49,941 people have been admitted to hospitals for treatment of dengue in the last eight months.
Half of the cases were reported from the Western Province, which includes Colombo, Gampaha and kelutara districts, Xinhua news agency quoted NDCU as saying.
Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Chief Medical Officer Ruwan Wijemuni told reporters that 12,754 cases have been reported from Colombo, 7,496 from Gampaha and 4,731 from Kalutara.
Vijemuni said they are facing many challenges in their annual Mosquito Control program because CMC lacks funds to buy chemicals and insecticides used to control dengue mosquito population.
Wijemuni said dengue cases usually peak between June and August and between November and January.
He said that lack of fuel is also hampering the mosquito repellent campaign.
