Pudukottai fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy near Karainagar on charges of poaching in island nation’s waters

The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested six fishermen who had sailed from Jegadapattinam port in the district on charges of poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

The fishermen went to sea on Monday aboard a mechanized vessel bearing registration number INDTN08MM399. He was arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy near Karainagar on charges of poaching in the island nation’s waters.

Those arrested were – the ship owner hailing from Vanagiri village in Mayiladuthurai district, but now residing in Jegadapattinam – K. Karthik (24), p. Devraj (35), M. Suresh (47), K. Thirumeni (31), I. Velmurugan (29) and I. Sundaram (47).

All of them are residents of Vanagiri village. Sources in the Coastal Security Group said the fishermen were later taken to the Mayilatti port for questioning.
