Stalin says Vellore should become research study capital

Chief Minister MK Stalin said on Wednesday that as Chennai Being referred to as the “Medical Capital”, Vellore should become the “Capital of Research Studies”.

Inaugurating the Muthamiz Arignar Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Hostel Block and Pearl Research Park at VIT, Vellore, Shri Stalin said that the contribution of educational institutions like VIT was essential to make Vellore the capital of research studies.

Mr. Stalin said earlier, K.K. There was a boost during the time of Kamaraj and the development of higher education took place during the tenure of Karunanidhi. Similarly, research studies should excel under the Dravidian model of governance. “Education is the only resource that cannot be stolen. So you (students) have to study a lot. No one can suppress those who succeed in their lives through education,” he said.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for the participation of private educational institutions to provide education to all. He said that the contribution of such institutions, including VITs, is needed to ensure that even school dropouts get an opportunity to continue their studies. With this they (private educational institutions) can contribute to the ongoing education revolution in the state.

To encourage parents to give Tamil names for newborns, G. Vishwanathan, Founder-Chancellor (VIT), Mr. Stalin said that he too was insisting that parents do the same whenever they attend public functions. He felt that such an effort would help in the development of the Tamil language. “Besides focusing on education, Mr. Vishwanathan has helped in the development of the Tamil language,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Stalin called on Water Resources Ministers Mr. Duraimurugan, K.K. Ponmudi, Higher Education Minister, R.K. Handlooms and Textiles, Mr. Shankar Viswanathan, Mr. Shekhar Viswanathan and GV Selvam – Vice President of VIT.
