The country’s top bank State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a notice to its account holders. The bank has asked customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar card by the end of the month. The bank has further stated that if they fail to do so, they will face difficulty in enjoying uninterrupted banking service.

SBI tweeted, ‘We advise our customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience and continue to enjoy uninterrupted banking service.

The lender said that non-linking of PAN with Aadhaar by the time limit will be treated as invalid.

The tweet further states that it is mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. If PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, PAN will become inactive and cannot be quoted for carrying out specified transactions.

NS National Stock Exchange (NSE) has also asked its trading members to complete the Aadhaar-PAN linking work by the end of the month. The stock exchange said that PAN not linked with Aadhaar by the deadline will be treated as invalid for the purpose of trading in the stock exchange.

The government has made several extensions in the time limit to facilitate the linking of two identification numbers. And, now the last date to link these documents is 30th September. After the expiry of the time limit, all PAN cards which are not linked with Aadhaar will become inactive.

PAN is mandatory for many financial transactions including opening bank accounts, depositing cash in bank accounts, opening demat accounts, transactions in immovable properties and transactions in securities. Aadhaar is biometric based and cannot be obtained on the basis of any other identity document, linking the two is considered important for the tax administration.
