Students can either fly into the state directly within the arrival limits set by the Australian government, or transit through another state or territory indirectly. Students must carry evidence of a negative Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) within 24 hours prior to departure and after arrival must isolate for seven days at an appropriate campus approved by WA Police or the WA Health Department.

All incoming international students must be vaccinated with at least two doses or a booster dose if they are eligible in their home countries. They will also have to undergo a RAT or PCR test within 24 hours of arrival or a PCR test on day six or a RAT on the seventh day during self-quarantine.

International education is one of Australia’s key industries, but earlier this year WA officials refused to allow students to return because of the COVID precaution health advisory, even though some states have already welcomed international students Ho.

Under the new route, 6,000 international students will be allowed to return to the state. The WA government said that according to updated health advice, the group presents a low risk to the community, as several factors can now provide confidence in the quarantine arrangement.

“International students are an important part of the Western Australia community – making a positive contribution to the diversity and vibrancy of the state, and supporting local jobs in a variety of industries. This new route is part of our ongoing review of border controls. Based on the latest health advice,” WA Premier Mark McGowan said.

Eligible returning international students will also receive a payment of 2,000 Australian dollars ($1,430) to help cover the cost of self-quarantine, according to the government.
