Mysore: To make Ganesha Chaturthi festival Mysore In a pious affair, the Ganesh Utsav Samiti has embarked on the task of making an idol of the god using the soil of 21 holy cities of the country to bind them with the water of seven holy rivers. NR Manjunath, President Swadeshi Jagran Manchconfirmed that the idol thus prepared would be worshiped at a festival organized in Madhav Kripa at JLB Road from 31 August 5 September 4 September.
Apart from its essentially sacred element, the statue would serve as a metaphor for unity and nationalism, given that it would be a composite of clay derived from Kedar, Mathura and Varanasi, effectively bringing these places to Mysore. Meanwhile, water from other rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Kaveri will be used for earthwork.
“We are collecting several other items from 108 houses in Mysore, from which we will decorate the idol. We will organize a workshop on August 28 to train residents to make eco-friendly Ganesha idols. Children will be taught to make Ganesha with seedballs,” Manjunath said.
Various cultural programs will be organized as part of Ganeshotsav celebration, he added.
