Sensex Today: Domestic equity markets started Wednesday’s trading session on a tepid note, amid weak cues from the overseas markets.

The S&P BSE Sensex touched a low of 66,985, and was down 513 points at 67,090, while the NSE Nifty50 shed 150-odd points and quotd just below the 20,000-mark.

In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index declined 0.7 per cent and the SmallCap index was down 0.5 per cent.

HDFC Bank down over 2 per cent was the major loser among the Sensex 30 stocks. Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and Infosys were the other prominent laggards.

Meanwhile, among Asian peers Hang Seng declined 0.6 per cent. Nikkei, Shanghai and Taiwan were down up to 0.3 per cent.

Global Cues

Asian stocks struggled for headway on Wednesday while 10-year U.S. Treasury yields stood at 16-year highs as surging oil prices drive inflation and set the scene for the Federal Reserve to project interest rates staying higher for longer.

Wall Street lost ground on Tuesday, with risk-off sentiment weighing as the US Federal Reserve convened for its much-anticipated two-day monetary policy meeting.
