New Delhi Artisan support organization 200 million artisans, and volunteer movement Creative Dignity are partnering with auction house Story Limited by Saffron to host an auction in late November to support the economic recovery of artisan communities across India.
This collaboration ‘India for Artisans’ brings together over 40 donors, including leading names from the world of arts, crafts and hospitality, to donate their products or experiences that tell a ‘handcrafted in India’ story.
At the auction, more than 50 unique lots will go on sale as part of a 12-hour, no-reserve auction held online at the end of the month. Indore’s Prince Yashwantrao Holkar is auctioning a stay at Maheshwar’s Ahilya Fort, while Queen Radhika Raje Gaekwad will auction tea with her at the Laxmi Villa Palace in Vadodara and take a private tour of the palace, including viewing the collection of Raja Ravi Varma also includes.
Fashion designer Anita Dongre Pichwai will be donating hand-painted clutches in collaboration with artist Lekhraj and a Kashmir-plated rug by Sanjana, an artisan from Jaipur Rugs Company. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Creative Dignity to support the relief efforts of artisan communities affected by COVID-19.
“As the world begins to move towards normalcy, it is important for all of us to remember those whose livelihoods have been deeply affected by COVID-19 and find ways to support them. ‘India for Artisans’ is a fundraiser to assist grassroots artists in their economic recovery and will create a long-term platform to help them sustain and grow their business,” said Dinesh Vazirani, CEO and The co-founder said.
