Strategic review to be done by March: USL

New Delhi United Spirits Ltd.: India’s largest liquor company, expects to complete the strategic review of its popular brands announced in February by the end of the financial year.

In a statement, a company spokesperson said: “On February 23, we began a strategic review of select popular brands. This strategic review is ongoing and is looking at all options to deliver sustainable long-term profitable growth. The review is expected to be completed by March 31, 2022.”

Johnnie Walker, maker of Black Dog and Black and White Whiskey, said that USL had begun reviewing its popular brands by premiumizing its portfolio and focusing on core brands.

USL’s popular portfolio comprises 30 brands and the review will look at half of that by volume. The company did not disclose the brand names that may be part of it, but said the review would not include particular trademarks of McDowell and Director, or any variants. The portfolio includes whiskey, rum, brandy, vodka and gin brands.

in an interview with Mint In October, Hina Nagarajan, MD and CEO, Diageo India, which controls USL, said the strategic review was “on track. We are looking at various options; it could further enhance the franchise model for these brands.” or may change the operating model or invest in some of these brands or invest or disinvest in some of them. We are exploring the implications of all the options,” she had said.
