Strong tremors felt in Delhi, Noida, Jammu and Kashmir after earthquake in Afghanistan

The National Center for Seismology said the quake hit the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and adjoining cities this morning when the epicenter of the 5.7-magnitude quake hit the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.

Some residents in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida tweeted that the ground shook for at least 20 seconds. People in Delhi also tweeted that they felt the tremors.

Shashank Singh, a resident of the city adjoining Delhi, said, “I felt my head spinning and I started closing my eyes when suddenly I looked at the fan and realized it was an earthquake. Around 25-30 in Noida Strong tremors were felt for seconds. tweeted.

The National Center for Seismology tweeted that a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region at 9:45 am. The depth of the earthquake was 181 km.

There are no reports of property damage, injury or death.

Government sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to inquire about the situation in the Union Territory after the tremors were felt.
