Student whose social media post led to Karnataka violence appears for exam

Karnataka Violence: Hubli Police has arrested a Maulvi Wasim Pathan and 128 others in this case.

The student whose alleged social media post Caused violence in the old city of Hubli On the night of April 16, with police security, appeared for the second pre-university examination on Friday.

The exam started on Friday and will continue till May 18. The first paper was of Business Studies.

Police took student Abhishek Hiremath to the college in a police vehicle from Hubli sub-jail in Ashok Nagar.

He had purportedly posted a video showing a saffron flag at a mosque, which is being said to be the root cause behind the violence.

A large number of Muslims together damaged several police vehicles, a hospital and a Hanuman temple near the outpost.

Hubli Police has arrested one Maulvi Wasim Pathan and 128 others in this connection. Police said that raids are on to arrest the remaining accused.

The police suspect that Pathan had boarded the police vehicle and made a speech which infuriated the crowd. The cleric, however, denied the allegation saying that he was trying to pacify the crowd.
