The students were asked to assemble under the sun in a playground around 10.30 am as experts sought to train them on how to deal with the LPG cylinder fire.

At least 15 girl students fainted during a mock fire drill on Wednesday at St Xavier’s School Bettiah in West Champaran district.

Mock drill was organized by District Fire Department in the school premises. The students were asked to assemble under the sun on a playground around 10.30 am as experts sought to train them on how to deal with the LPG cylinder fire.

Due to the scorching heat, the girls fell unconscious one by one on the ground. When the mock drill was going on, there was no ambulance in the school. Six students were taken to the hospital after the ambulance arrived.

The remaining nine students were recovered minutes after they were brought inside the school building.

“We immediately rescued the students and took them inside the school premises. The victims are safe and recovering. He fainted due to the heat and probably not eating food. We have called doctors and sent six students to the hospital,” the school principal said in a written statement.
