Carrying saffron flags and placards saying ‘End Admission Scam’ and ‘Bring CUET’, the protesting students raised slogans demanding adoption of CUET for all courses.

A group of students protested outside Jamia Millia Islamia, demanding admission to all courses through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

CUET was introduced last year by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. However, earlier this month, JMI announced that it would stick to its admission process.

“We have gathered here to protest against the non-adoption of CUET. When every central university has adopted it then why is there a problem with Jamia.

The protest was organized by the RSS-affiliated ABVP.

The protesting students carried saffron flags and placards saying ‘End Admission Scam’ and ‘Bring CUET’ and raised slogans demanding adoption of CUET for all courses.

The students also claimed that the scorecards of PhD have not yet been given by the university.

Earlier this month, JMI decided not to implement CUET for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses except in 20 programmes, citing lack of time to change university rules, a senior official said on Friday. .

This year, twenty courses including B.Sc (Hons) Physics, B.Sc (Hons) Chemistry will allow admission through CUET, which is 10 more than last academic year.

Recently, UGC had asked Jamia to implement CUET UG in all courses from the academic session 2023-24.
