Chandigarh: President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Friday Punjab Was lost on investment over the past five years Congress Governance due to the anti-industry policies of the state government. He said the government has removed the ‘Invest Punjab’ and governance reforms portfolios.
He said that Punjab has become a victim of Congress party’s defamation of Punjabis as drug addicts. The SAD president was addressing a gathering of industrialists at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) office in Chandigarh during which its Punjab unit presented a manifesto ‘Making Punjab Future Ready’. CII Punjab Unit President Bhavdeep Sardana in his keynote address focused on ensuring transparency in government functioning, digitization, reducing industry-government interface and ensuring consistency in government policies. Sukhbir He said that he had already started the agenda prepared by the Punjab unit of CII in his previous tenure, but was jailed by the Congress government, due to which the industrial investment climate had deteriorated. “How can you expect investors to invest in the state if the ruling party defames its own people by saying that 70% of them are drug addicts?” he said. Sukhbir said the constant reference to the words “treasury khali” (empty vault) by the Congress government and its top ministers has also eroded the confidence of the industry.
The SAD president assured that the focus of the next government would be on accelerated development, education and health. “We are committed to build mega integrated schools at the block level, apart from setting up 500-bed hospitals in all districts,” he said.
SAD announces 2 more candidates:
The SAD on Friday announced two more candidates for the Punjab Assembly elections to be held early next year. Former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra will contest from Ghanaur assembly seat in Patiala district and sitting party MLA Dilraj Singh Bhundar from Sardulgarh constituency in Mansa district. Chandumajra had contested the 2019 elections but was unsuccessful. Lok Sabha Dilraj, who is elected from Anandpur Sahib, is the son of Rajya Sabha member Balwinder Singh Bhundar. The SAD has so far announced 81 candidates out of the total 97 seats it is contesting. The party’s alliance partner – Bahujan Samaj Party – will contest the remaining 20 seats out of the total 117 assembly constituencies in the state.
