The Delhi Police on Friday said it has suspended 11 of its personnel, who were on PCR and picket duty in the area where the Sultanpuri hit-and-run took place.

On January 1, Anjali Singh, a 20-year-old woman, died after a car hit her scooter in Sultanpuri in outer Delhi and was dragged for over 12 km till Kanjhawala in Rohini, before that the occupants of the car abandoned it. Body.

On Thursday, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the police to initiate disciplinary action against all erring personnel based on preliminary findings, which suggested dereliction of duty on their part.

DCP (Rohini) Gurikbal Singh Sidhu said, “As approved by the competent authority, a total of 11 policemen from Rohini district have been deployed on PCR and routes in view of the Sultanpuri incident.”

These include two sub-inspectors, four assistant sub-inspectors, four head constables and one constable. Five of them were on two pickets and the other six were in three PCR vans,” said the DCP.

A source said the suspended policemen have been posted at Aman Vihar, Kanjhawala and Begumpur.

Another officer said he was suspended for delay in responding to the PCR call and not alerting other policemen while dealing with the incident.

A senior MHA official said that the police have also been asked to send progress reports of the case every 15 days, adding, “Delhi Police has been asked to file the charge sheet at the earliest and present a strong case in the court.” Gone. Of the law.”

In its letter to the Delhi Police, the MHA had said that the role of supervisory officers should also be probed and if their negligence is proved, action should be initiated against them.

Meanwhile, officials at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Rohini, said they submitted the forensic toxicology report of the accused to the police on Thursday and Anjali’s viscera report on Friday. The report of the accused would help in ascertaining whether they were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

An FSL official said the sequence of events was reconstructed to corroborate the statements of the accused and eyewitnesses, a report of which has been submitted to the police.

Another FSL official said, “Along with traces of blood, pieces of cloth have also been recovered from the stretch along which the victim was dragged.”

After arresting the occupants of the car, Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishna, Mithun and Manoj Mittal, the police also arrested Ashutosh Bhardwaj and Ankush Khanna for shielding the five accused and misleading the investigation. Ankush was later granted bail.
