Sun Mobility and Zip Electric partner to deploy 10,000 EVs across India for last-mile delivery

Sun Mobility and Zypp Electric have already deployed electric three-wheeler vehicles for the cargo segment in Delhi/NCR and have plans to expand to ten more cities soon. Both companies aim to deploy 10,000 electric vehicles in the next few years.

Energy infrastructure and Electric Vehicles (EVS) service provider Sun Mobility has announced a new partnership with EV logistics company Zip Electric. Under the new partnership, the two companies aim to deploy 10,000 electric vehicles on various platforms across India, for last-mile delivery services, over the next few years. Sun Mobility and Zypp Electric have already deployed electric three-wheeler vehicles for the cargo segment in Delhi/NCR and have plans to expand to ten more cities soon. This is the first partnership under Sun Mobility’s recently announced Mobility as a Service (MaaS) model.

Speaking on the partnership, Akash Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO, Zypp Electric said, “We are delighted to partner with Sun Mobility under their MaaS model to serve the rapidly growing last-mile delivery segment. Enables us to rapidly electrify and deploy our fleet of vehicles with benefits such as unlimited kilometers of roads, no downtime for charging, no high upfront capital and other issues regarding maintenance and warranty. Zypp and Sun Mobility share some great synergies and we look forward to expanding this partnership with electric vehicles across various models across the country.”

The partnership with Zypp Electric is the first partnership under Sun Mobility’s recently announced Mobility as a Service (MaaS) model.

Under this new partnership, Zypp will get Sun Mobility’s electric mobility solution that includes flagship cargo vehicle models integrated with smart batteries. It will also have access to the latter’s extensive network of battery-swapping stations, called Swap Points, on a pay-per-use plan bundled with unlimited battery swaps. The company says that by choosing the swappable battery EV, Zypp will have the flexibility to use different vehicle models across the fleet, but with a common battery swapping infrastructure. These connected batteries bring in telematics data and analytics to operational efficiency. Zypp plans to deploy these vehicles in various applications in retail, eCommerce and grocery delivery.

Under this new partnership, Zypp will have access to Sun Mobility’s extensive network of battery-swapping stations, called swap points.

By 2025, Sun Mobility aims to add over one million electric vehicles through its MaaS model. The company is already offering EV solutions in the eCommerce and merchandise delivery segments in major cities like Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Chandigarh and plans to expand further to other cities across India. The company has inducted hundreds of such vehicles across multiple fleet operators and has a strong order book to deploy thousands more.
