Suspected dengue kills 40 in UP’s Firozabad

Classes one to eight postponed till September 6 after children’s death

Firozabad District Magistrate Chandra Vijay Singh has ordered the closure of all schools for classes 1 to 8 till September 6 after around 40 people died due to suspected dengue in the last few days.

The District Magistrate, in his order issued on Monday night, said that it would be applicable to all government and non-government schools as well as coaching institutes.

He warned of strict action against those who disobeyed the order.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who had visited some dengue patients in the district on Monday, said that 32 children and seven adults have died so far.

He had said that teams would be formed to find out the cause of the deaths.

However, Firozabad MLA Manish Asija had told PTI Told on Sunday that more than 40 children have died of dengue in the district since August 22.

The chief minister told reporters on Monday that the first case came to light on August 18 and the relatives of the patients started treatment in private hospitals and clinics.

He had also said that samples of some patients should be sent to King George Medical University in Lucknow and National Institute of Virology in Pune.

The Chief Minister had directed the concerned officers to ensure proper cleanliness in the district.

He also visited the 100-bed ward of the government hospital and met the children affected by dengue and took stock of their treatment arrangements.
