Suspected monkeypox case in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan. details here

A suspected case of monkeypox has been reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on Friday. According to health officials, the samples of the person have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for confirmation.

This person, a resident of Baddi area, showed signs of infection 21 days ago and is currently recovering. As a precaution, he has been kept in isolation and surveillance is being done in the surrounding areas. According to officials, the person has no history of foreign travel.

So far, India has reported four confirmed cases monkeypox Diseases – Three from Kerala and one from Delhi, the central government informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.

It said that there have been no deaths due to monkeypox in the country.

Yesterday, nine out of ten samples of suspected monkeypox infection, which were sent to NIV, Pune, tested negative for the viral disease. These ten samples were sent to NIV last month. Similarly, a suspected monkeypox patient admitted to LNJP Hospital here was discharged yesterday after testing negative.

Meanwhile, Brazil on Friday reported the first monkeypox-related death outside the African continent in the current outbreak. A 41-year-old man was also suffering from lymphoma and a weakened immune system.

The first-ever death from monkeypox in the US came less than a week after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the rapidly spreading outbreak a global health emergency, its highest level of alert.

WHO had so far only confirmed five monkeypox Deaths, all in Africa.

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Brazil is among the countries most affected by monkeypox in the US, along with the United States and Canada, with more than 5,000 cases reported so far.

Nearly all cases have been reported in men who have sex with men aged 25 to 45, according to PAHO, but warns that anyone can get the disease, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.
