Suvendu officer out of CID summons in case of bodyguard’s death

The Nandigram MLA did not appear before the West Bengal CID citing “political engagements”.

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Monday did not appear before the West Bengal CID in connection with the investigation into the death of his bodyguard and said he was busy, an official said.

BJP’s Nandigram MLA Mr Adhikari was summoned by the CID in connection with the death of his bodyguard Subhobrata Chakraborty at the headquarters at Bhabani Bhawan.

“He mailed us at around 9.30 am, mentioning some political engagements, due to which he could not come to meet our officials,” a CID official said. PTI.

A source in the agency said the CID held a meeting after receiving Mr Adhikari’s mail to chalk out possible next steps in the investigation, including whether he would be sent another summons.

Mr Adhikari was not immediately available for comment.

In connection with the investigation, a team of CID has visited his residence in Kanthi.

According to police, Chakraborty allegedly shot himself with his service revolver in October 2018 at a security camp outside Mr Adhikari’s Kanthi residence.

The CID has so far questioned more than 15 people, including 11 policemen.

Chakraborty, a member of the State Armed Police, had been part of Mr. Adhikari’s security team since becoming an MP. He remained in the team after Mr Adhikari was made a minister in the Mamata Banerjee government.
