Swine flu outbreak: Punjab declared ‘contained zone’; 2 Village Substation

After some samples of unwell pigs in Punjab’s Patiala district tested positive for African Swine Fever, the state government declared the entire state as a “contained zone”. Meanwhile, two villages have been said to be the epicenter of the earthquake.

Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said in an official statement, samples of unwell pigs from Patiala district of Punjab have been tested positive for African Swine Fever (H1N1).

Subsequently, the state government has declared the entire Punjab as “controlled area”, while Bilaspur and Sanouri Adda villages in Patiala have been notified as “sub-centres” for prevention, control and eradication.

The Minister of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development said that the government has initiated these measures under the ‘Prevention and Control of Infectious and Infectious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009’ and they have come into force with immediate effect.

He said that up to one kilometer from the two villages declared is considered as “infected zone”, while an area up to 10 km is classified as “surveillance zone”.

Bhullar said that the highly contagious and fatal viral disease affecting domestic pigs was confirmed by ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal.

No live pig, unprocessed pork, feed or any material from pig farms or backyard pigs shall be brought out of or brought into the infected area and no person shall market any pig or pig products Those who are believed to be infected with the disease, the minister said.

He said that inter-state movement of pigs or any material related to pig farming is prohibited till further orders.
