Symphony orchestra brings curtain down on science festival at HPS

The Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) performed at the Hyderabad Public School on Sunday as part of its centenary celebrations. The concert was held at the newly built open air theater and marked the end of the three-day India Science Festival.

The 45-member orchestra is India’s first and only professional symphony orchestra and was established in 2006 by the National Center for Performing Arts, Mumbai.

The hour-long performance was conducted by British conductor Mikael Toms. Some popular tunes include Mozart’s ‘Overture of the Magic Flute’, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 and Schubert’s Symphony No. 5. The orchestra also performed the Hyderabad Public School song, composed by former principal Arnold Brown.
