Disha Vakani, who used to play the role of Daya Jethalal Gada in TMKOC, went on indefinite maternity leave in 2017 and has not returned since then.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is one of the longest-running sitcoms which has been running successfully for over 15 years now. The show has now completed 4,000 episodes. On Tuesday, the official Instagram handle of TMKOC shared a picture from the celebration on sets. In the photo, the entire cast of the show was seen posing for the camera as they were also joined by the maker, Asit Kumarr Modi. A huge 4000-themed cake was also seen kept on a table in the picture.

In the caption of the post, makers thanked viewers for being a part of their journey as they wrote, “#TMKOC4000 episodes ki yaatra, hasi ke saath! Humne saath mein dekhe anek pal. Join the celebrations!! Aapka shukriya!” Check it out here:

However, soon after the post was shared, several fans rushed to the comments section and asked if makers were planning to bring Dayaben back. “Daya kahan hai?” one of the users asked. “They score well but the charm to see old episodes will never be same,” another comment read. Several others urged the makers to get their ‘favourite’ character back.

This is not the first time that fans have requested TMKOC makers to bring back Dayaben soon. Disha Vakani, who used to play the role of Daya Jethalal Gada in Asit Kumarr Modi’s show, went on indefinite maternity leave in 2017 and has not returned since then. Lately, Asit Modi has repeatedly conveyed that the hunt for new Dayaben is underway.

“The audience of the show has been patiently waiting to see their favourite Dayaben back on the show. The casting for the character isn’t easy and it will be a challenge for any actress to step into Disha’s shoes. We will need a brilliant performer for the part,” Modi told E-Times in August 2023.
