TAC to decide on easing of COVID-19 restrictions in border areas: CM

Bommai to hold discussions with police officials on withdrawal of cases registered for violation of COVID-19 norms

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Mangaluru on October 13 that the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in border areas and opening of offline classes for primary schools will be decided by the State Level Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

Speaking to reporters at Mangaluru International Airport before leaving for Udupi, Mr Bommai said the TAC will meet after Dussehra to review the COVID-19 situation in Karnataka and neighboring Kerala and Maharashtra. It will look into the vaccination status in areas bordering Kerala and Maharashtra, and relax the requirement of producing a COVID-19 negative certificate, not older than 72 hours, for those entering the state from Kerala and Maharashtra. Will decide on demand.

Resumption of offline classes for classes 1 to 5 after Dussehra will also depend on the recommendation of the TAC.

He plans to discuss with the police officials and take a decision on withdrawal of cases registered for violation of COVID-19 norms.

Vaccination

Mr Bommai said the central government has not yet taken a decision on vaccinating children for COVID-19. The state government has made good progress in vaccination, with 82 per cent of the population receiving the first dose and 36 per cent receiving the second dose. The government plans that the first dose will be given to 90 percent of the population and the second dose to 70 percent of the state’s population by December.

“Once the norms for children are announced, we will vaccinate them with necessary precautions,” he said.

Reiterating that there is no shortage of coal for thermal power plants, Shri Bommai said that arrangement has been made to supply five rakes of coal including three from Singaneri Colliery to power plants in Karnataka.

On the MSP for paddy, Mr Bommai said that the decision on the fixation of MSP would be taken by the cabinet sub-committee.
