Tamil film ‘Kozhangal’ is India’s official entry at Oscars 2022

Directed by PS Vinothraj, the film was presented by Rowdy Pictures featuring Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan.

Tamil film by debutant director PS Vinothraj koozhangal (Pebble) has been announced as India’s official entry at the Oscars 2022.

If selected, the film will compete for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film next year. danish film another round, Directed by Thomas Vinterberg, won the honor in 2021.

The announcement was made by Shaji N Karun, chairman of the 15-member selection committee constituted by the Film Federation of India. The 94th Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022.

Presented by Rowdy Pictures of Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, koozhangal It is about the journey of an alcoholic father Ganpati and his son Velu, who are on their way to bring back their wife-mother who has left home. Through his eyes we get a comfortable view of life in the drought-hit village of Madurai.

earlier this year, koozhangal Too Won the coveted Tiger Award, the top honor at the 50th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2021.

Other films in consideration for India’s official Oscar 2022 entry include Amit Masurkar’s lioness and Shoojit Sircar biopic Sardar Udham.

India’s submissions to the Oscars in recent years include those of Lijo Jose Pellissery. Jallikattu And Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy.

Till now no Indian film has won an Oscar. The last Indian film to make it to the final list of nominations in the Best International Feature category was Ashutosh Gowariker’s Tax in 2001. Mother India (1958) and Salaam Bombay (1989) are the other Indian films that made it to the final nominations.
