Tamil Nadu: Police kills history sheeter wanted in 35 cases. Madurai News – Times of India

Tuticorin: A history-sheeter wanted in 35 cases, including seven murders, was gunned down by the police near Muttiahpuram on the outskirts of the city on Friday.
This is the second ‘encounter’ by the state police in a week. A 28-year-old Jharkhand man, who allegedly snatched a chain from a woman near Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district, was killed in an ‘encounter’ earlier this week.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Tuticorin district denied that Friday’s incident was an encounter. They claimed that the history-sheeter, V Duraimurugan, 40, was killed after the police fired at him in self-defense after he attacked two policemen with a knife. Duraimurugan of Koottampuli near Pudukottai is the prime accused in the murder of 23-year-old M Jagadesh of Sivagamipuram near Pavoorchatram in Tenkasi district on October 6.
Jagadish was kidnapped by Duraimurugan and his associates after a clash between the two days before the murder. The youth suffered sixteen cuts before being buried in Tirunelveli town. The body was exhumed earlier this week and a search was launched for the accused.
“We started looking for Duraimurugan as he is from our district,” SP Jayakumar told reporters after visiting the encounter site on Friday afternoon. The SP’s special team led by Sub Inspector Raja Prabhu received information that Duraimurugan along with two of his associates was at a hideout in Kovalam near Muttiahpuram.
Jayakumar said the SI was accompanied by three constables when he saw Duraimurugan. “Constable David Raja was chasing the history-sheeter when two of his accomplices fled. After running about 50 meters he returned to attack David Raja with a knife, landing a cut on the constable’s left hand,” the SP said and added that it was when the SI fired in the air and forced Duraimurugan to surrender. asked for.
“But the history-sheeter attacked Raja Prabhu with an ax and cut his left hand. For self-defense, the SI fired three rounds at Duraimurugan. The accused was sent to Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital, where he was declared brought dead on arrival. His body has been kept in the hospital for post-mortem,” the SP said.
Police said the SI had received six bullets in his official 9mm pistol, out of which four were fired as a warning bullet and three were fired at the history-sheeter. The injured police constable and SI were admitted to the hospital. The SP, who took information about the incident, said that both were in shock.
Cases in eight districts
Jayakumar said that Duraimurugan has cases in eight districts including Madurai, Tuticorin, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Kanyakumari, Dindigul and Ramanathapuram over a period of two decades. In Madurai he has cases in Omachikulam, Othakadai, Perungudi, Anna Nagar, SS Colony and Tepakulam police stations. Most of his murders were kidnappings, followed by brutal murders.
According to the police, Duraimurugan is also known to get into trouble for molesting. He is accused of killing Srinivasan in 2001, T Selvam, Rajinikanth and Stalin of Tuticorin in 2003, Balamurugan of Tiruvannamalli in 2010, Manimozhi, 44, near Othakadai in Madurai in 2011 and Jagadish of Tenkasi earlier this month. He was released on 3 September after spending nearly three-and-a-half years in prison.
The 28 other cases against him include 21 dacoities, six thefts and attempt to murder. The SP said that special teams are engaged in search of two accomplices of Duraimurugan, who escaped from the spot on Friday.
