The sensor-equipped mirror is designed to emit a sound two seconds after the driver closes their eyelids, which will wake them up, said Venkatesh, the creator of the innovative eyewear.

The main reason for accidents occurring at night is often attributed to drivers who squint their eyes while driving. A third-year polytechnic student from Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar has come up with a unique type of glasses with sensors that prevent drivers from blinking while driving.

Velaichamy Nadar Polytechnic College organized a technical exhibition on April 8 at a private hall in Virudhunagar district, where several students displayed their creations. However, all eyes were on a pair of goggles designed to prevent drowsiness among drivers. Venkatesh, the creator of this innovative eyewear said that after being displayed in Delhi it is now being displayed here. According to Venkatesh, these glasses can be used by drivers and night workers to keep their eyes open during work.

“The sensor-equipped mirrors are designed to emit a sound two seconds after the driver closes their eyelids, which will wake them up. The device is designed to automatically turn off the sound two seconds after waking up ,” he explained.

The student hoped that in the future these glasses could be attached to vehicles and that models could be developed that would automatically shut off the engine after an alarm is triggered. This feature will be especially useful for drivers and watchmen who work at night and need to keep an eye on thieves.
