Thalapathy Vijay’s Vaarisu and Ajith Kumar starrer Thunivu hit the silver screens on January 11.

Police said the cinema halls were holding special screenings of films without permission.

Two big films have been released in Tamil Nadu this year on the occasion of Pongal. Thalapathy Vijay’s Vaarisu and Ajith Kumar starrer Thunivu hit the silver screens on January 11. Both the audience and the theater owners were enthusiastic about the projects.

For audiences, it’s about entertainment and supporting their favorite actors, and for theater owners, it means big business. Theater owners in Tamil Nadu started screening Varisu and Thunivu from 1 am on 11 January. Now, it has been learned that the district collectors of almost every district in the state have received reports from the superintendents of police regarding the violation of the time allowed for the show.

The police in their report stated that the movie theaters were holding special screenings of films beyond the time without permission or permission.

The police further said that at some places – by scheduling special screenings of these films early in the morning – theater owners had created a situation where disputes between fans would lead to law and order issues.

Sources said while police commissioners in cities had the authority to issue show-cause letters, collectors of districts, who were in charge of issuing licenses, would seek an explanation from theater owners within 15 days. If the theater owners fail to comply, disciplinary action will be taken against the offenders under the Tamil Nadu Theater Regulation Act, 1957.

Despite an explicit order banning the morning showing of the two newly released films, the cinema owners continued screening the films, which attracted a large crowd. There were also claims that the ticket prices were outrageous.

The Home Secretary noted in an order, which was published a day before the release of the films, that the licensing authorities were “required to prohibit morning shows and to charge exorbitant rates of admission during such shows of new films”. Action must be taken.” Condition 14-A of Form C License under the Tamil Nadu Cinema (Regulation) Rules, 1957.
