The Tamil Nadu government on Monday said a project – Illam Thedi Kalvi (Education at the Doorstep) – is being piloted in 12 districts to bridge the learning gap created by the closure of schools during the pandemic-imposed lockdown. will be started on a project basis. of the state. Based on the result, the project will be extended to the remaining districts for students of classes 1 to 8 of government schools.

Initially, it will be launched for two weeks in Cuddalore, Dindigul, Erode, Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nagapattinam, Nilgiris, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli and Villupuram districts. The project is to be implemented for a period of six months to impart educational skills among children who have not been attending their classes since the imposition of the lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus from March 2020.

The scheme will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore from this financial year with the participation of teachers, volunteers, NGOs and academicians. It will be made a mass movement with the participation of parents, public, volunteers and teachers, said an official press release.
