Woman’s family claims she was harassed by her husband and in-laws

In Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, a woman who got married last month died by suicide. She was 27 years old.
Ramya had returned to her parents’ house as a nurse a few days after her marriage to Karthikeyan, who worked in a private company. She was found dead at her parents’ house. Police is calling it a suicide. The husband’s family says that she was upset that there was no toilet in their house.
However, the woman’s family claims that her husband and in-laws harassed her.
Her uncle Pandian said, “She demanded more gold and a motorcycle for her husband.” “He came here the other day and assaulted her,” he said.
In case of death in less than seven years of marriage, the district administration has ordered an inquiry from the Revenue Divisional Officer.

Asked whether the absence of toilets led to the extreme step, Mr. Ganesan said: “We suspect it could be a reason. He is an educated person and we suspect that is the only reason.”
Investigators say they have not found any suicide note and are investigating all possible causes.
