Earlier this month, on the occasion of 2022 World EV Day, Tata Motors announced its plans to introduce a fully electric version of the Tiago compact hatchback. Bye Tiago EV It is all set to make its official launch on 28th September.
upon arrival, new Tata EV The Tigor will be positioned below the EV in the company’s electric line-up, which also means that it could become the cheapest electric car in India. With the Mahindra e-Verito no longer available, the Tigor EV is currently the most affordable four-wheeler EV in India, priced from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
Nonetheless, the Tiago EV is expected to share its platform as well as the powertrain with the Tigor EV. The electric sedan uses a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers its permanent magnet synchronous motor. The electric motor produces 74.7 PS of maximum power and 170 Nm of peak torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds.
It remains to be seen whether Tata decides to install a slightly smaller battery on the Tiago EV to keep the price under check. The Tigor EV has an ARAI-certified range of 306 km on a full charge, and the upcoming Tiago EV could have more or less a similar range.
Talking about the styling, the design of the Tiago EV will remain the same as the regular Tiago, although it can be made different with some changes. Like the Tigor EV, the Tiago EV is also expected to get EV badging on the fenders and tailgate along with blue accents on both the outside and inside.
