Team India loses No. 1 spot in Test rankings due to big confusion by ICC – view details

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday created confusion by changing India’s position in the Test rankings. Initially, India was declared as the top team in the Test rankings with 115 rating points and Australia was second with 111 rating points. However, later in the evening, the ICC updated the rankings, placing Australia at the top with 126 rating points and India at the second spot with 115 rating points. The change comes after India’s recent win over Australia in the first Test in Nagpur.

Despite being the number one T20I team and topping the ODI rankings last month, India are now 11 ranking points behind Australia in the latest Test rankings. To reach the final of the World Test Championship, India will have to win the ongoing four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy by 3-1 or 3-0.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin moved up to second in the rankings for men’s Test bowlers after his eight-wicket haul against Australia in Nagpur. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja, who made a successful comeback after nearly five months out due to a knee injury, has moved up 16th position thanks to his player-of-the-match winning effort in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series-opener. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action since last September due to a stress fracture in his lower back, is fifth among other Indian bowlers.

In the Test batting charts, India skipper Rohit Sharma jumped two places and is now at the eighth position after his match-defining ton in Nagpur. Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who will be sidelined indefinitely after his horrific car accident, is the other Indian batsman in the top-10, at seventh position.
