technical snag in UGC-NET exam; Candidates will get one more chance – Times of India

New Delhi: Technical glitches affected the first day of the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) on Saturday as several centers in Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reported server problems. While in some centers the candidates could not take the exam, in others the server problem caused the candidates to waste their time as they were logging off. The National Testing Agency (NTA) said later in the day that all candidates from the centers where the technical glitch was reported will get one more chance to take the test. The agency is probing the technical problems encountered in the exam.

From morning itself, candidates took to social media and also called various centers of TOI and informed about their examination.

In Odisha, not only did the exams start late by almost two hours due to server issues, but the candidates also complained of repeatedly logging off during the exam. There was chaos at CV Raman Global University in Bhubaneswar where around 400 students took the exam. “While the online exam was scheduled to start at 9 am and end at 12 noon, it started late by two hours. It was disappointing,” said one examiner

“The inspector told us that there was a technical problem for which questions were not opening. It was a server error. They told us that this is a pan-India problem,” said an examiner in social medicine and community health.

In Bihar also candidates complained about getting less than 50% of the time allotted to attend the exam due to technical problem.

When the exam started the online question paper was getting logged out again and again. An archeology student said each login was taking five to 10 minutes.

In Raipur too, where the exam started two hours late, in Visakhapatnam it was also delayed by 15 minutes. Similar disturbances were reported in Allahabad and Noida.

“@ugc_india NET/JRF exam which was scheduled for today didn’t happen due to some server issue of @DG_NTA. Students waited for 3 hours at JSS Institute Sector 62 Noida and then left. When will it be rescheduled? @dpradhanbjp @HRDMinistry,” tweeted a candidate.

At 12 noon another candidate tweeted, “NTA has been a disaster! NET exam was supposed to start at 9 AM. My reporting time was 7:20 PM and the center is around 40 kms from my home. I’m 3 hours away. I am waiting, and still no information from centre. How is this arrangement? #NTA #ugcnet2022.”

According to Vineet Joshi, Director General, NTA, “Candidates from all the centers where technical glitches were reported will be given one more chance. Right now we are compiling data from different centres. NTA will release notification on this soon.

According to NTA sources, technical issues emerged due to the addition of some new features before the exam. “As per the security protocol we have started the policy of adding some features every time. Therefore, technical faults were reported at some places in the morning. There were also some server issues, but they were mostly from remote areas. ,

Earlier on July 8, a day before the exam, NTA had announced the postponement of two papers of UGC-NET December 2021 and June 2022 (merged cycle). The agency postponed the UGC-NET exam for Telugu and Marathi of the merged cycle of December 2021 and June 2022.

“The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments have their own examinations scheduled for that day. Thus due to administrative/logistical reasons the examinations in the subjects mentioned below are being postponed till further notice,” the NTA said in its official notification.
