Telangana Assembly adopts Center’s proposal to name new Parliament building after Ambedkar

State IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao, who moved the resolution, said it would be appropriate to name the newly constructed Parliament building after Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution.

The Telangana Assembly on Tuesday adopted two resolutions calling on the Center to name the new Parliament building in New Delhi after BR Ambedkar and opposing the new Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 proposed by the central government. State IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao, who moved the resolution, said it would be appropriate to name the newly constructed Parliament building after Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution.

State Energy Minister G Jagadeesh Reddy moved a motion opposing the electricity bill. He said that this bill is against the interest of farmers, poor section and employees of the power sector.

As part of the redevelopment of Central Vista in the national capital, a new Parliament building is in the final stages of completion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi The foundation stone of the new building was laid in December 2020. Last month, he had unveiled the national emblem on the roof of the building.

The Center plans to hold the winter session of Parliament in the new building. The Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 seeks to create competition in the electricity distribution sector by providing consumers with the option to choose between multiple service providers in an area.

Union Energy Minister RK Singh had recently said that the bill is likely to be considered and passed in the winter session. The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 8 August, and the same day was referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy for examination.
