Telangana CM to address 21st TRS Foundation Day; National agenda likely to be unveiled

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will address party workers and members on the 21st foundation day here on Wednesday and is likely to unveil his national agenda. The occasion is also expected to sound the election bugle for the 2023 state assembly elections, with the ruling party setting its eyes for a third consecutive term since coming to power in 2014.

Established on 27 April 2001 to demand the formation of an independent Telangana state, the TRS achieved its objective with the bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh on 2 June 2014. During the day-long celebrations at the Hyderabad International Convention Center (HICC) in the city, the party will showcase its strength, the Telangana development model and the achievements of the TRS government in the last seven years.

As per the schedule, the TRS supremo will begin the celebrations by hoisting the party flag at 10.30 am, followed by a welcome speech and move 11 resolutions, including one on the national and state political situation. The resolution will be debated and passed in the plenary meeting, which will also seek people’s support for the sustainable development of Telangana based on welfare programs for all communities.

The TRS government has launched more than three dozen odd welfare schemes in the last seven years. Some of the popular welfare schemes are: Rythu Bandhu, Dalit Bandhu, Dharani, Kanti Velugu, Mission KCR Kit, Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagirath, Harita Haram, Kalyan Lakshmi-Shaadi Mubarak, Arogya Lakshmi, Aasara Pension, Housing for the Poor, Sheep Distribution, T-Fiber and V Hub Women Entrepreneur Hub. Telangana, which witnessed frequent power cuts, low agricultural output, paucity of drinking water and a general sense of despair before the formation of the state, is said to have made rapid progress in the last seven years. To simplify governance, the number of districts has also been increased from 10 to 31.

The meeting assumes significance with the CM taking swift action to play an important role in national politics and form an anti-BJP front ahead of the 2024 general elections. The TRS has already roped in the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), which was once headed by election strategist Prashant Kishor, to help the party in the coming elections.

The party may make announcements on its foundation day keeping in mind the elections to be held next year. Around 3,000 delegates are expected to attend the ceremony. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Presidents of various Corporations, Zilla Parishad Presidents, Mayors and City Presidents and others are invited for the meeting.
