Telangana Congress files complaint against MLAs who joined KCR’s party

Hyderabad:

The Congress in Telangana on Friday lodged a police complaint here against 12 party MLAs who had crossed over to the ruling BRS (earlier TRS) in 2019.

State Congress president A Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other leaders complained to the Moinabad police, who registered a case in connection with the alleged poaching attempt on four BRS MLAs in October 2022 .

Congress demanded inclusion of probe into his complaint along with the FIR lodged in the alleged ‘poaching case of BRS MLAs’.

The Congress has filed a complaint against BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and 12 MLAs who were elected on a Congress ticket in the 2018 assembly polls but “swamped” into the BRS in and around 2019.

The Congress alleged in the complaint that the 12 “defection” MLAs received undue benefits that were offered to them for leaving the Congress and joining the BRS.

Speaking to reporters, Revanth Reddy supported a CBI probe into the transfer of the 12 MLAs to the BRS.

Following a request made by 12 MLAs, in 2019 the Speaker of the Assembly recognized them as members of the ruling TRS (now BRS).

When asked about the Congress complaint, a police officer from Moinabad police station said they would take legal opinion on it and proceed accordingly.

The Telangana High Court recently transferred the probe into the ‘poaching case of BRS MLAs’ from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the state government to the CBI.
