Telangana: The condition of a female postgraduate medical student remains critical after she attempted suicide on Wednesday in Telangana. As per reports, the victim’s family has accused a senior Warangal doctor of harassing the medico. The state government has assured a thorough probe into the incident.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan visited the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences to inquire about the student’s condition.

Student remains in critical condition

The student was given advanced treatment after multi-organ failure.

“In view of continuous deterioration in cardiac and pulmonary function, ECMO was initiated and CRRT was initiated to support kidney function,” the hospital said in a bulletin.

It added that the condition of the student remains critical and all efforts are being made to maintain her vital functions under the close supervision of a multidisciplinary team of specialist doctors.

A doctor by profession, the governor met the girl student and wished her a speedy recovery.

He said that the investigation should be done in all directions.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister T Harish Rao said the government would conduct a thorough probe into the incident and take action against those responsible for the alleged suicide of the PG student.

An official release said that the minister spoke to the parents of the student.

Harish Rao, who directed the doctors to ensure advanced medical care to the student, was closely monitoring her condition by talking to her. A health official said that the girl student and her senior, who has been accused of harassment, had been counseled a few days back and it was not a case of ragging.

ABVP workers protested

The girl student’s father said that she had complained to the police after expressing her anguish. ABVP activists protest in Warangal, demanding “justice” for the female student.

A first-year postgraduate medical student at a state-run hospital in Warangal district on Wednesday allegedly attempted suicide after being harassed by a second-year student in the same college, police had said.

Staff and doctors found the woman on duty in the hospital unconscious and gave her first aid there. Police said it is suspected that he resorted to the act by giving some medicine orally or through intravenous route.
