Telangana leader YS Sharmila gets bail in police attack case

A local court on Tuesday granted bail to YSR Telangana Party president YS Sharmila, a day after she was arrested by the police in Hyderabad.

Ms Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, was produced before the court on Monday following her arrest, which sent her to judicial custody till May 8 and lodged her in jail.

Ms Sharmila had also filed a bail application which was posted for Tuesday after the court issued notice to the police.

After hearing the arguments and counter-arguments, the court today granted conditional bail on a surety of Rs 30,000 and two sureties. He was directed not to leave the country without the permission of the court and to cooperate with the investigation.

The court also directed him not to repeat such offense in future. Ms. Sharmila was later released from jail.

Defending her actions, Ms Sharmila had said in a statement, “It is my responsibility to act in self-defense”, and alleged that the police had “behaved rudely” with her.
