Telangana non-regional parties vying to fill void left by TRS among KCR’s national plans

Has the renaming of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) benefitted non-regional parties in the state? At a recent party meeting, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu asked party members to intensify activities in Telangana and revive the party, which was once in power in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Janasena Party chief Pawan Kalyan has asked his party cadre to pick up seven or 14 seats in Telangana and has indicated a yatra from Kondagattu. While YSRCP leader YS Sharmila, who has been on a padyatra in Telangana since July last year, lodged a complaint with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) regarding alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.

TRS came to power in 2014 riding on the spirit of Telangana after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The Pink Party projected itself as a party that could rectify the alleged historical wrongs committed by the ‘Andhrawadis’ to the people of Telangana region. There was a strong anti-Andhra wave which made the party led by K Chandrasekhar Rao victorious in the newly created state. However, when KCR announced his national plans and dropped ‘Telangana’ from the party’s name, political experts believe that the regional hold of the TRS is weakening, giving equal opportunities to the ‘Andhra’ parties. Used to be.

When asked about the issue, BJP’s chief spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said: “Chief Minister KCR has made the biggest mistake in his political career by hastily changing the name of his party. This is bound to have negative consequences. The TRS has earned a reputation as a strong regional party and has come to power twice successfully despite the BJP and the Congress playing a key role in the formation of a separate state. BRS will not cut the ice regionally and KCR will lose home ground and will not even get a national spot in the end. ‘Na ghar ka na ghat ka’ could be a big possibility.”

He confirmed that parties like TDP and YSRCP are looking to re-enter Telangana to fill the void created by BRS. “I expect one or more ultra regional parties to reach the spot at the earliest,” Krishna Sagar Rao said.

However, TRS maintains that there is another reason behind the visible activity in the non-regional camp in Telangana. TRS leader Krishna Manne told News18, “I don’t think the local sentiment will go with the name change because even after Modi became the prime minister, his first love has always been Gujarat. KCR being the chief minister of Telangana is definitely the leader of the state. Will continue to represent the interests too. His interests for these parties have always been his personal property, and he too is being anchored by the BJP. The TDP has been in alliance with the BJP and the Jana Sena in politics with the BJP. TDP did not field any candidate in Munugodu bypoll, but its flag was seen with that of BJP candidate Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy. This alliance wants to take action against TRS.

He further said that before questioning the Kaleshwaram project, Sharmila should look into the projects that were started by her late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy. “If Sharmila is questioning the contractors of Kaleshwaram, she should first ask who brought the mega contractors to the state? This was his father. His father started the Pranahita Chevella project, which was transformed into the Kaleshwaram project. The same contractors his father had hired continued to work in the project. He started the Jala Yagya only to earn money. Her husband is also a part of it. She is doing this because she is a puppet of the BJP.”

TDP national spokesperson Prem Kumar Jain said that despite the name change, people of Telangana want development and they know that only KCR can provide it. “People remember how Naidu worked for the development of the state when he was the chief minister. Merely changing the name does not change the policies of TRS. Naidu has always said that both the states (AP and Telangana) are like his two eyes. Hence, his interest towards Telangana was never diminished.”
