Both Sahni and Anant dominated their bouts from start to finish and won by equal margins of 5–0 against local boxers Nathaphon Thumcharoen and Rithiamon Se.

However, Amit Panghal (52kg) and Monika (48kg) could not go much distance and ended their campaign with a silver each.

Panghal, the silver medalist of the 2019 World Championships, lost to Rosen Ladon of the Philippines via a 2-3 split decision.

With the two boxers separating slightly during the bout, the 26-year-old Indian managed to overtake the Filipino in the first round. But bin Laden bounced back in the next two rounds.

Monika, on the other hand, put up a spirited performance but settled for the silver medal after beating local boxer Chutmas Raksa 0-5.

The Indian contingent has already improved from its previous edition’s tally of eight medals, one gold, four silver and three bronze.

India’s medal tally currently stands at seven medals, including two golds, as many silvers and three bronzes, with three boxers yet to fight in their final bouts.

Manisha (57kg), Pooja (69kg) and Bhagyabati Kachari (75kg) had tied up with bronze medalists on Friday.

Later in the day, Ashish Kumar, Varinder Singh and Sumit will fight for the gold medal in their respective events.
