Rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said he will reach Mumbai on Thursday for a floor test against the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government in Maharashtra.

There has been no formal announcement from the Raj Bhavan that the floor test is to be held on Thursday, though a letter specifying June 30 as the date for the floor test, purportedly penned by the governor, went viral on Tuesday.

Shinde told reporters in Guwahati, where a large group of MLAs supporting him have been camping for a week, he would reach Mumbai along with all the MLAs of his group. Shinde, who came out of the luxury hotel in Guwahati, home of the insurgent group for the past one week, said he had offered prayers at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati for peace and prosperity of the people of Maharashtra.

The announcement of Shinde’s return to Mumbai came hours after BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis returned as chief minister, met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday night and called him for a floor test in the assembly as Thackeray. The government led by the Shinde group had lost majority after the rebellion.
