The body of a medical student killed in Ukraine will reach Bengaluru on Sunday

Shekharappa Gyanegowda is demanding that his son’s body be brought to India for the last rites.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai today said the body of Naveen Shekharappa, a medical student who died in Ukraine, would reach his home in Bengaluru, Karnataka on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Indian was a resident of Haveri district of Karnataka. A student of Kharkiv National Medical University, he was reportedly standing in a queue to buy food when he was killed in Russian shelling in Kharkiv, Ukraine on March 1. Witnesses said the Russians blew up a nearby government building.

Russia has said that it will investigate the death of the Indian medical student.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had said that the circumstances of his death were not at all clear.
