Pavlok CEO Manish Sethi once hired a woman to slap him for opening Facebook
Indian-American founder and CEO of wearable device company Pavlok Manish Sethi once hired a woman from Craigslist to slap her every time she opened Facebook, which impressed Elon Musk.
In 2012, Mr. Sethi realized he wanted to increase his productivity, so he went to Craigslist looking for someone who would be willing to slap him every time he opened Facebook, while he was supposed to be working. “I hired a girl on Craigslist to slap me every time I used Facebook,” he explained in his blog, adding that the results of their experiment were surprising. According to Pavlok’s CEO, he hired a woman named Kara for $8 an hour to slap her every time she strayed from work—and her productivity increased by 98%.
A picture of Mr Sethi being slapped by Kara for opening Facebook recently resurfaced on Twitter and caught the eye of Elon Musk.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO responded to the picture with two fire emojis. Emoji are used to indicate something nice or surprising.

While Mr Musk’s tweet has garnered nearly 10,000 ‘likes’, it left Mr Sethi with more questions than answers.
“Is Elon Musk giving me the two emojis I’ll reach for the most?” He asked in the comments section, wondering if the emoji were meant to represent his “‘moment of Icarus flying too close to the sun’.”
