The idol of Lord Nataraja was given to Sree Narayani Peetham

Its sculpture was started in 2010 at a unit near Swamimalai.

The 17-feet-high Lord Nataraja idol installed on a six-foot bench that was cast at a sculpture unit near Swamimalai was handed over to the representatives of Sree Narayani Peetham in Vellore on Monday.

Thimmmakudi sculptor Varadaraja said the casting work for the highest Chola-era model Nataraja idol began in 2010 and was finally completed this year. It was also proposed to engrave Thiruvasagam On the pedestal, he said.

The idol, including on foot, and weighing 15 tonnes, was handed over to Sree Narayani Peetham on Monday in the presence of Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan after a special puja. Earlier, Thanjavur Collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver welcomed the Lieutenant Governor near Kumbakonam.

According to him, the idol of Lord Nataraja of 11 feet, ordered by the central government and installed in a nuclear research center in Switzerland, was made in this sculpture unit.
