Vivek Agnihotri’s much-awaited directorial venture ‘The Kashmir Files’ was released in theaters on March 11. Anupam KheriStarring Darshan Kumar and Mithun Chakraborty in lead roles, the film is based on the exodus and killings of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s. The film is being lauded for its difficult and intense portrayal of the Kashmir genocide. Not only this, it has got a 10/10 rating on IMDb.

The film has become a topic of discussion among the audience, especially those who have been affected during the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s. This mass migration took place in February-March 1990 and within a few weeks lakhs of Hindus were relocated from the state. Now more than three decades later, the ‘brutally honest’ tale of this escape is being shown on the big screen.
Recently during a media interaction, Anupam Kher, who plays Pushkar Nath in the film, spoke about how he portrayed the character and tried to bring the pain and suffering on screen. He also said that just because he himself is a Kashmiri Pandit, things were not easy. In fact, they were a little more difficult.
“It’s very difficult to play a role that you’ve experienced before. Because when you’re doing it as an actor, it’s important not to feel because you’re doing it in the bracket of a film. There are me. There are two sides to this character, as a person and as a movie character. As a person, however much one can relate to a character, you cannot act it, because it is an actor. Everyone feels emotions, but not everyone can act on them,” he said.
Apart from Anupam, the film, based on the true stories of the victims of the Kashmir genocide, also stars Pallavi Joshi, Prakash Belavadi, Bhasha Sumbali, Chinmay Mandlekar, Puneet Issar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Atul Srivastava and Prithviraj Sarnaik. The film has been released in theatres.
