Mr. Mohan donated Rs. 15.44 lakhs to secure the number 0001 in the government auction
A man from Chandigarh has gone viral on the internet for spending more than Rs. 15 lakhs for installing Super VIP number plate on your scooter. 71,000. Mr. Brij Mohan recently bought the elusive number plate ending with 0001 in an auction organized by the Chandigarh Registration and Licensing Authority. This is after Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s announcement that the government will put up some ‘special’ number plates for auction to generate additional revenue for the state.
Mr. Mohan, who runs an advertising agency, paid Rs. 15.44 lakh in the government auction to secure the number 0001. He further revealed that he has bought this special number plate for the future vehicle which he plans to buy in 2022 around the festival Diwali. Till then, the VIP license plate will sit on top of their Honda Activa scooter.
The Chandigarh Registration and Licensing Authority had put up for sale a total of 378 license plates in the auction and a total of Rs. 1.5 crore in additional revenue. Number plates ending with 0001 are actually currently in use in 179 government vehicles, of which 4 are owned by the Chief Minister of Haryana himself. The CM decided to drop these license plates and the bidding for 0001 number plates started at Rs. 5 lakhs.
According to various reports the total revenue is Rs. 18 crores can be earned by auctioning these VIP number plates to the public because they are in great demand.
