The meeting of Chief Ministers raised hope of early resolution of irrigation, border dispute

The public representatives appreciated the joint statement issued by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik that both the states would find an amicable solution to the issues related to Jhanjavati project in Vizianagaram district and Neradi barrage on Vamsadhara river in Srikakulam district. ,

Deputy Chief Minister Dharmana Krishna Das, who accompanied Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy in Bhubaneswar’s meeting, said that setting up of an institutional mechanism by both the states to resolve the important issues including the construction of Neradi Barrage would be a boon for Srikakulam district.

“The Neradi barrage project, which was pending since 1962, will ensure water supply to Vamsadhara in about 1 lakh acres,” he said.

Srikakulam MLA Dharmana Prasada Rao said the friendly relations between the two states would help the people of both Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Parvathipuram MLA Aljangi Jogarao thanked the two chief ministers for taking the initiative to remove all obstacles to the construction of the Jhanjavati project, designed in 1976.

“About 848 acres of land is required under the jurisdiction of Odisha to complete the Jhanjavati project. It will provide water to about 24,000 acres in the backward Parvathipuram division. We are hopeful that this project will be completed soon with the initiative of both the Chief Ministers. The people of this region will forever be grateful to Odisha if the project is completed without delay,” said Mr. Jogarao.

Saluru MLA Pedika Rajandora appreciated the joint statement which referred to the issues related to the disputed Kotia villages. “The issue needs an amicable solution to completely stop the tension in the villages along the inter-state border,” he said.

The public representatives of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts eagerly awaited the outcome of the meeting of the two chief ministers in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening.

Earlier in the day, he met Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had come to attend the wedding ceremony of Vedita, the daughter of Pathapatnam MLA Reddy Shanthi and IAS officer. Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with Speaker of the Assembly Tammineni Seetharam, Minister of Animal Husbandry and other public representatives welcomed Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy at Pathapatnam.

Some public representatives submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and apprised him about the problems of inter-state border dispute and Vamsadhara Phase-2 project.

After completing his tour in Srikakulam district, the Chief Minister arrived in Visakhapatnam in a helicopter and from there he left for Bhubaneswar in a special aircraft.
