Banerjee told paparazzi, “We 17 lakh people of Bengal will not be reduced to a minority at the hands of the BJP by taking over their rights.” Until the MNREGA fund is released, we will win our voice as a whole. Without damage, we will not leave. We did not come here for tea and breakfast.” He said party leaders had spoken to the minister and asked him to meet them on Wednesday. Banerjee said, “I am told that he is in Parliament today. We came here when Parliament was adjourned. We will wait for 10-12 days and if they don’t release the funds, we will float away.

Representatives of the Zimbabwe Congress have put a name to the issue after meeting with officials from the Ministry of Rural Development. Static said that on May 12, 2022, West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi focusing on the state’s dues under various central schemes. It states that another letter on the subject was written on June 9, 2022.

Subsequently, a delegation of MPs spoke of meeting the minister on June 16, 2022, on the issue. The amount has not been paid. By April 2023, Bengal’s blow to various schemes like MGNREGA, PMGSY, PMAY(G) and NSAP is about Rs 12,300 crore.

The party also said that MNREGA is a right enshrined by an Act of Parliament and the central government cannot curtail people’s rights by not approving the work and delaying the payment. Static said that the central government also needs to release all the announcements under the housing scheme so that Bengal no longer faces any hindrance in improving the standard of living of its people and providing adequate housing facilities .

It said, “We ask you to cancel Section 27 of the MNREGA Act and act to release the amount except Bengal. Also, your work is required in the labor budget for 2022-23 and 2023-24 (for Bengal). This will go a long way in alleviating the plight of 1.4 crore active wage earners and ensuring that poor families in Bengal do not lose their right to work.
