A 35-year-old woman and a mother of two children were arrested on Saturday for throwing acid on a man, police said.
Police said Arun Kumar (28) of Thiruvananthapuram is undergoing treatment at the state capital’s Medical College Hospital and is in danger of losing his eyesight after acid was thrown on Sheeba’s face on November 16.
“Doctors say she may have lost her eyesight. They met through Facebook, but she later found out that she was married and the mother of two children. He wanted to end the relationship, but he blackmailed her. tried and demanded money,” the police told PTI.
He said Kumar along with his brother-in-law and friend went to a church near Adimali on November 16 where he met her to pay the amount.
In a CCTV footage from the church premises, which surfaced today, Sheeba, who was standing behind Mr. Kumar, comes forward and throws acid on his face. During this he also suffered some minor injuries.
Police said that he admitted himself to a private hospital in Adimali that day and was later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
Police said a case was registered in this regard yesterday and Sheeba was arrested today.
