The Artificial Intelligence (AI) trend has taken over social media platforms and has become the latest viral craze. From passing medical and legal exams to delivering speeches, AI has evolved to interact with users and offer solutions to their problems. However, advancement in technology also poses a threat to many existing jobs and their usefulness in the future. Now in the midst of all this an old video of the classic cartoon ‘Tom and Jerry’ is gaining traction online and is linked to concerns of being replaced by AI.
In the video, Tom the cat is replaced by a robotic cat who skillfully tackles Jerry the mouse. The clip was shared by Indian Administrative Service officer Supriya Sahu on Twitter. He captioned the post, “60 years ago, Tom was the first person to lose his job because of machines and artificial intelligence. Now #TomandJerry #Wednesdayvibes.”

In the video, Tom’s owner calls him over and introduces him to the robotic cat who will perform the tasks he was unable to do in his work as Mouser. The video reads, “Mechano-tomorrow’s cat doesn’t feed, doesn’t fuss and doesn’t clean fur, efficient trust worthy.”
Once the woman switches on the mechano, the robotic cat successfully captures Jerry and throws him out of the house. At the end of the clip, a dejected Tom packs his bags and leaves the house, feeling disappointed at losing his job.

Ms Sahu shared the clip a few days back and it has since been viewed over 30,000 times. In the comments section, several users shared their views on the predictions.
“Wow!! Fred Quimby’s team actually predicted this half a century ago,” wrote one user. “Now…it’s not Tom’s turn, it’s Human’s turn,” said another.
“Many writers and poets predict the future, very good!” Third comment. Another said, “If you watch the full video, at the end the lady wants Tom back because the machine failed.”
